Oh, what a night…

November 20th, 2010

Friday night was our official kickoff to the holiday season.  What usually is our salon workplace turned into New Leaf Nordic Lodge.    It was filled with everything from hot apple cider to yummy popcorn to even a fireplace setting.  The stylists each styled a model to later be judged by all of the guests.  Here is a ‘backstage look’ at the preparations.

The party was ready to begin at 5:00pm.  It was a beautiful night, the air was filled with holiday cheer.  We knew it was going to be a great night but NEVER anticipated we would have almost 500 people walk through our doors!  Therapy accessories were flying off the shelves, our new cosmetic line Becca was a huge hit, and of course, nobody could get enough of Oribe and Kerastase haircare.

Welcome to the Nordic Lodge

Welcome to the New Leaf Lodge.

Okay, so it has been told to us (many, many times) that New Leaf knows how to throw a party.  We seem to be a favorite stop the night of the Holiday Preview.  Besides the obvious reasons (our charming staff and great store), we also are known for our great food and drinks.  This year we had peppermint hot chocolate, rum hot cider, and spiked snow cones.  For dessert we had s’mores, cookies, and fresh popped popcorn ( the popcorn was such a big hit that we will be making it every Saturday through the holidays : )).

All the stylists were so creative with their looks for the night.  Each stylist showed a storyboard to reflect their inspiration.  It was very hard for the guests to pick their favorite.  But at the end of the night, Jenn’s model was the clear winner.  Jenn had a great vision of a Marilyn Munroe-ish Ice Goddess and it showed.   Here are some of the model’s pictures.

We always try to have fun with a purpose at New Leaf.  This year we asked people to bring in a toy for Toys for Tots in exchange for a Cargo lipstick.  Thank you to over 25 people who participated.  One of our models thought they were party favors.  Sorry ; ).

We had so much fun again this year.  We loved seeing all of our clients, friends, and meeting new faces.  Thank you to everyone for all your loyalty and patronage; without you we wouldn’t have as much fun : ).  Enjoy your holiday season from all of us!

‘Tis the Season

November 12th, 2010

Well,  it’s that time again.  We say it every year, we can’t believe where the time has gone.  But, it is the best time of year to be merry, spend time with family &  friends, and enjoy the season.  Did I forget shop?  It’s the busiest shopping time of the year.

The best shopping is in Bristol on Friday, November 19th.  Many merchants will open their doors and welcome you in for shopping, specials, and fun.  At 5:oo pm sharp, the FUN will begin at New Leaf.  We have many exciting specials in store, new products to share, drinks  to enjoy, and laughs & cheer to celebrate the holidays.

Therapy. Boutique has many new accessories that will make perfect gifts for anyone on your list, even men!  Skincare by Yadria will give you a customized  regimen that will have your skin glowing by Christmas.   The party will go on until the last shopper has dropped or until the punch bowl is dry.

So, mark your calendars, Holiday Preview,  Friday, November 19th,  5:00p.m.

And don’t forget the Snowflake Raffle.  This is the second year of this event and I’m sure it will be grander than the last.  If you forgot how it works, for every $25 purchased at a participating merchant, you will get a ticket that could be the lucky winner of $5,000!  Call or stop in for more details.

Rhode Island Monthly's Best of RI… Best Salon Trifecta!

July 29th, 2010

We are so proud to announce that New Leaf won TWO awards at the Rhode Island Monthly’s Best of RI party Wednesday night….

-Readers’ Poll Best Salon East Bay (THREE years and counting…Thank you faithful New-Leafers…You rock!)

AND

-Best Salon for Brides

We were all so excited to attend the party. Here’s how it went down… Amy received a letter saying that New Leaf has won something. RI Monthly keeps everything else a big secret. Working in a salon, we are very good secret keepers. We hold the key to lots of ‘stuff’, if you know what I mean. But we still hate secrets, especially when we are on the other end of things. So we closed the salon early, dressed to impress,  and all headed in to the Providence Performing Arts Center (Rhode Islanders…PPAC:)

After some cocktails and apps, we headed in for the presentation of the magazine and for some special awards…

Are you Brave enough?

June 8th, 2010

It’s that time of year for our annual LOCKS OF LOVE DAY at New Leaf!  Kelley Richardson, a faithful New Leaf-er and Martin MIddle School teacher in East Providence, helped to round up 10, yes 10, brave ladies to donate their long locks for  wigs for kids and women battling cancer.

Here are the 10 brave souls who went for the ‘cut’…even Kelley and her daughter Maeve went for it (far right).

The before…whoa! Some of these girls had some H-A-I-R…It takes an average of 6 donated ponytails to make just 1 wig. These 10 ladies probably made at least 2:o)

What’s the new "IT" accessory?

May 25th, 2010

What is the new ‘it’ accessory of the summer? A shiny manicure! Pick your color…from natural neutrals to bold and bright.

At New Leaf, we hear that the number one reason for NOT getting a manicure is : “I ruin them too fast!” Say no more….

SHELLAC has come to your unsightly naked nails’ rescue!

SO what is it? Shellac  is a hybrid of traditional nail polish and UV gel polish. Unlike soak-off gels it comes in a polish bottle and unlike traditional polish it cures/dries under a UV lamp. What we really like is there is NO BUFFING. There is no damage to the natural nail in the process. So how does it work?

Shellac paints on like polish – base coat, color, top coat – and is cured in a UV light so there is zero dry time. The colors are hypo-allergenic, and “3-Free” – no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP. Shellac comes in a range of 12 varieties of shades, from pretty French pinks and whites, to siren red and rich darks. The colors are CND’s top 12, and more are to be added.

The formula is thin and flexible like polish, so it not only looks natural, it provides strong natural nail protection with a resilient mirror finish that resists dullness and chipping, even during the most rigorous activities.

Ok, so for all you manicure groupies we have out there, this polish begs the question: How in the world do you remove it?

Just a quick 5 minute soak and you are ready to change the polish color…Hip-hip-HOOray!

We have been testing it in the salon, and we mean, TESTING it. Our nail technicians go insane with the stylists here at New Leaf. It’s  unintentional, we swear, but we pretty much sabotage their craft of nail artistry after our manicures. As stylists, we are the worst ‘business cards’ for beautiful manicures because we manage to destroy them in record time–Let’s just say we are pretty rough.

We are proud to now be the BEST ‘business cards’ for this amazing SHELLAC service! Our Shellac manicure is still beautiful after 14 days of shampooing, typing, texting, gardening, you name it, we have done it.

SHELLAC…
