1. Bring in 3 pieces from your wardrobe that your just not that into and you can swap 3 from the rack!

2. Do bring…dresses, jeans, tops, bottoms, designer bags, brand new or gently worn
shoes, accessories.

3. Don’t bring….bathing suits, old shoes, undergarments, coats, exercise gear.

4. Be season conscience. Spring/Summer pieces, but if its colorful cashmere’s or designer something’s we’re talking about… we’ll bend the rules a little:)

5. Left behind pieces will be donated to a charitable organization.

Where better to start a great night, meet the girls for a special day,  or even some out of office networking than our Beauty Bar?!

New Leaf Hair Studio is now booking YOU as our Host along with up to five friends to join our Professional Makeup Artist Danielle Crugnale for some FACE Time@the Beauty Bar.

Recently, Leah one of our lovely clients,  helped us launch the occasion. Leah picked the time and day;  we took care of the rest. The ladies arrived to meet their hostess on a Thursday evening to have their makeup done, get some great cosmetic tips, and relax before their next destination. It was the perfect start for a night with friends! Everyone had a great time (plus looked beautiful) and we are excited to open the doors for you…

Spring Make-up Report 2012

“If winter comes,  can spring be far behind?”… Well, NYC Fashion Week has just come to a close and I am ready to dive into some color.  The show was filled with  lavenders, and all shades of oranges, pinks, and reds…a make-up artist’s dream palette!

The look calls for a contrast of even complexions with a spa like finish and bold lips. Not only “red” but lots of pigment filled hues and there’s one to suit everyone.

Eyes are clean. One bold shadow. A colored liner. Minimal blush.  Brows are a highlight focus as well. Shaped and finished with pencil or powder to look groomed and slightly thicker.

Of course extra full lashes are still the trend.  And if you can never have enough lash, the Beauty Bar is now selling Revitalash,  which is proven to lengthen and thicken your lashes within the first month of application.

This season don’t be afraid of color, think bold, not abstract 1980′s. More like Andy Warhol meets Jane Austen. Confront color, and it won’t take over your whole look. I have to say I find Spring 2012 so fun and beautiful.  It truly departs from monochromatic and makes you want to spring clean your makeup bag!   Hope to see you all soon…

Are your lips ready for Valentine’s Day?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It happened again the other day.  A client told me she’s always trying to find a great new lip color, but rather than changing,  she finds herself going back to the old standby. Yes ladies… it’s all about finding the right one….lipstick that is .

I think lip color, aka…liner, lipstick or gloss, is the most personal and difficult to choose. Lip color makes the biggest statement in our overall makeup look, so of course, you want to get it right.   The wrong color can date us.   Too little color and we feel drawn, but too dark of color is just plain wrong.   As I beg… I mean recommend my clients to try a color outside of their comfort zone, it’s awesome when they  have the ”Wow, I would have never picked that color” moment.  I notice gals always grab for those safe non pigment base tones, and rarely go for the corals, bright pinks or reds.  Believe me, there is a tone in every color that is right for you.

Nothing against a great everyday color. But for something special (Valentine’s Day) or going for a “look”,  having shades recommended by a professional…me:) will change your view on lip color.

2012: The Year of Perfect Looking Skin

 As we head into this new year, most of us  have made esthetic resolutions. First off,  a good makeup artist will always tell you  ”the better your skin looks, the better your makeup looks.”   That’s Part 1: Skincare.  So cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and book an appointment with our esthetician, Yadira.   She is one of the best on the East Coast.   Just one look at her skin and you’ll be booking out for the year.

 Part 2: Make-up.   Nothing will improve the appearance of your skin better than a few choice products.  So what can I tell you that you haven’t heard?   A lot, because everyone’s different.   All the tips help in the mags help, but the best way to know what makeup products to choose from is to take a 1/2 hour to  have a professional ( ….me) look at and touch your skin.  Primers, Foundations, Illuminators, Minerals, Powders. Different for everybody. We’ll start there and then go into color.

 Color. I can tell you now, leave your color wheel at home, and I know that color makes your eyes look greener . Adorable, but believe me,  sometimes our color comfort zones limit us. So, I am starting the year off with a Perfect Looking Skin Workshop.  Start by building your foundation products and techniques, then in the spring we can add some new colors.  Feel free to bring in your own makeup products.   I can help you with how and when to use them  too.   I always tell my clients to fill in the gaps, before they decide to ditch everything.
